Lake
Vänern, the 3:rd greatest lake in Europe is well known for its good
fishing. You can catch salmon and salmon trout weighing 24 to 28 pounds. There
are also fine whitefish and big perch. Pikeperch and pike over 20 pounds are not
unusual.
The
water is very clean so the fish are not poisoned.
You are
very welcome to troll, jig, angle, spin- and fly-fish.
If you
want to go fishing in the rivers and lakes near lake Vänern you must get a
fishing-license. This is valid for nearly all the lakes except for lake Vänern.
In lake Vänern the fishing is free, but there are certain rules you must obey.
Visit
the nearest tourist agency and buy the fishing-license and ask for the rules for
the lakes/rivers where you want to fish.
On the

fish under these minimum sizes are to be brought ashore.
In
short the following applies to the trolling fishing in lake Vänern:

Limited to 10 fishingrods per boat.
-
Limited to 3 fishes a day and person for salmon trout and salmon.
- All
salmon and salmon trout must be with cut fat fin.
-
Trolling is only allowed in public water.
- Public
water = At least 300 m from the shore or from islands more than 100 m
long.
Trolling
and common angling in lake Vänern is allowed all year.

weather at lake Vänern is too hard for trolling, there are smaller lakes not
far away. Please observe that the trolling rules may differ.
